Hoi An, Vietnam
What 90% of solo women don't know about staying safe in Hoi An.
Rural village with basket boat rides through coconut forests. Half-day trip from Hoi An. Safe, family-friendly. Daytime only.
Cam Thanh Village (also called Coconut Village or Bay Mau Coconut Forest) sits about 5km southeast of Hoi An. Rural Vietnam - water coconut groves, farming villages, and the basket boat rides everyone comes for. Local fishermen teach you to paddle these round bamboo boats through palm forests, spin them in circles, try casting nets. It's a tourist activity but actually fun, and the fishermen are friendly. Green Coconut Village restaurant sits in the forest by the river - natural materials, coconut leaf roof, serves Quang noodles, banh xeo, fresh seafood. Prices are half what you pay in Ancient Town. Cooking classes teach you traditional dishes with local ingredients. Family-friendly during the day, activities done by late afternoon. Small village, everyone knows everyone, tourists welcomed. The bike ride through rice paddies is part of it, or take a Grab for $3. Plan for half a day - limited accommodation and nothing happens after sunset.
