Details

Skanderbeg Square was rebuilt in 2017 from a traffic circle into a large pedestrian plaza. It's paved with stones from different regions of Albania and surrounded by the National History Museum, Et'hem Bey Mosque, and Opera House. During the day it's full of tourists taking photos, families with kids, and people meeting up. There's visible police presence and tourist police speak English. Cafes and restaurants line the edges and fill the underground level. After dark it stays lit and busy until around 23:00, especially on weekends when locals walk through after dinner. The surrounding streets have government buildings, hotels, and shops. Women sitting alone in cafes or walking through is normal. It's more for meeting up and sightseeing than nightlife - after seeing the sights, people head to Blloku for dinner or Pazari i Ri for lunch.
