Manama, Bahrain
What 90% of solo women don't know about staying safe in Manama.
Mall and hotel district with international chains. Very safe but sterile and expensive with no local character. Good for shopping or business, not for experiencing Bahrain.
Seef is Manama's shopping mall district with modern hotels and office buildings. Could be anywhere - glass towers, international chains, nothing particularly Bahraini about it. Seef Mall gets 25,000 visitors a day with 315 stores, 16 movie screens, and a big indoor amusement park. Very safe with security guards, good lighting, family crowds until late. Normal to eat alone in the food courts and restaurants. Everything is expensive and sterile, like Dubai or Singapore. Everyone speaks English since it's all aimed at tourists and expats. Good if safety is your main concern or you're here for business, but you won't see real Bahrain. The Ritz-Carlton on the beach gives you more of a resort option while still near the malls.

Business and embassy district with maximum security. Very safe but dead outside work hours. Good for business trips or as a secure base between other areas.
Block 338 in Adliya is Manama's main restaurant and nightlife area with international food, galleries, and bars. Well-lit and safe to walk around at night. Prices are high but it's the most comfortable area for eating and going out alone.
American expat area near the naval base with familiar restaurants and tight security. The bar scene brings harassment issues at night. Fine during the day for Al Fateh Mosque or hotel restaurants, but skip the bar strip.
