Boyana and Dragalevtsi sit at the base of Vitosha Mountain, about 30 minutes from central Sofia. If you want hiking trails right there and cooler summer temperatures, this is it. Air quality is better than downtown, mountain views when you wake up. Buses 64, 66, 67, and 93 run to the city but you need to work around their schedules. Quiet residential area with nice villas and some small hotels. Not many restaurants or cafes - you'll eat in the city or at your hotel. Boyana Church (UNESCO site) is here, hiking trails start from Dragalevtsi and Simeonovo. Popular hike is Cherni Vrah peak at 2,290m - takes 3-4 hours from the bottom. Winter skiing at Vitosha's small resort. Less English since it's residential, though hotel staff speak it. Feels very safe - wealthy and quiet. Good if you prioritize nature over nightlife and tourist sites, but you're commuting for most dining and attractions.
