Details

The Beaches is a lakeside neighborhood that feels like a resort town despite being in the city. The boardwalk along Lake Ontario has joggers, dog walkers, families throughout the day. Queen Street East runs parallel with local cafes, restaurants, and shops - more neighborhood than tourist. Crowd is mostly local families, young professionals, retirees. People eat alone all the time - bring a book, work on your laptop, nobody cares. English is standard and locals are friendly but not intrusive. Good lighting on main streets. Summer weekends get packed on the boardwalk, winter is quiet. About 30 minutes by streetcar from downtown.
