Details

Parque del Perro is the student nightlife area where young locals and backpackers drink cheaply. The park has illuminated sculptures and small bars - basically fridges with stools on the sidewalk where people sit on plastic chairs. Beer costs less than half what you'd pay in Granada. Students, young locals, and budget travelers mix here, especially on weekends. Places like Mr. Wings and Blondie have 2-for-1 deals on weekdays. It's the local scene, not the polished tourist version. Safety depends on how busy it is. Thursday through Saturday nights when it's packed, there's safety in numbers. But on a quiet afternoon or after 1am when crowds thin, the area isn't well-lit or particularly safe. You'll need Uber to get here from San Antonio or Granada. The estancos (local bars) cater to Colombians, so English is rare and prices are local. People report having fun here in groups from hostels, but going alone - especially as a woman - isn't comfortable. The casual atmosphere and cheap drinks bring some aggressive behavior. It's like a college bar district: fine when busy with friends, not where you want to be alone.
