Details

Maksimir is a green residential district on the east side of the city. It has Maksimir Park, the oldest and largest public park in Zagreb, and the zoo. Wide, tree-lined streets of villas and apartment blocks make it quiet, and trams reach the centre in around 15 minutes. It suits people who want calm, green space and lower prices and don't mind a ride to the main sights. There are a few neighbourhood restaurants and pizzerias, and evenings are quiet. The park is pleasant by day but best avoided after dark, and some stretches between tram stops are empty at night, so take a tram or ride-hail to the door after dinner.
