Details

Kalamaja used to be a working-class fishing area and now has colorful wooden houses mixed with industrial cafes and vintage shops. It's where younger people, artists, and students live because rent is cheaper than elsewhere. The streets have traditional yellow wooden houses that look good in photos. Old factories have been converted into places like Telliskivi Creative City, which has design shops, street food, and music venues. F-Hoone is a restaurant in an old factory building made from recycled materials. The area stays busy in the evenings with people at outdoor terraces and weekend flea markets. It's safe to walk around at night - decent lighting and other people are usually around. Eating alone is common here. Cafes like Boheem and Kohvik Moon have lots of people working on laptops solo. English is widely spoken since there are expats and tourists. You can take tram line 1 or 2 to Telliskivi stop to get to Old Town.
