Commercial area with shops, restaurants, and Kala Academy cultural center. Busy and safe during the day, but crowded. Watch belongings in markets. Stick to main road at night.
Campal and 18th June Road run through the center of Panaji with shops, restaurants, and the Kala Academy cultural center. During the day it's busy with people shopping at Bombay Bazaar and other stores selling handicrafts and souvenirs. There are gardens (Campal Gardens, Gracia de Orta Garden, Azad Maidan) and the Kala Academy hosts cultural events. Restaurant staff usually speak English. Cafe Tato is an old family place serving Puri Bhaji breakfast and vegetarian thali. It's more local life than tourist zone - busier and more crowded during rush hours. Watch your stuff in the markets; pickpocketing happens. At night stay on the main road, don't wander into side streets. Buses and taxis connect to other areas.
