Panaji, India
What 90% of solo women don't know about staying safe in Panaji.
Beach area 3 km from Panaji. Safe during the day when families are around. Not for swimming or bikini sunbathing. Leave before sunset - unsafe at night.
Miramar Beach is 3 km from Panaji center, where the Mandovi River meets the Arabian Sea. Local families come for evening walks and watching sunsets. It's not a party beach like the ones up north. Swimming isn't good here, and if you wear a bikini you'll get stared at by domestic tourists. The beach is fine during the day when families are around - alcohol is banned on all Goa beaches now. Street food vendors sell bhel, chaat, and ice cream near the entrance until sunset. There are cafes and restaurants on the beach road - Martin's Beach Corner, The Taverna with live music, Cafe Mojo. Don't go to the beach after dark; it gets empty and unsafe. Stay on the lit main road if you're in the area at night.
