Denpasar, Indonesia
Government district with monument and museums. Local life, not touristy. Safe during day, no English, no nightlife. Cheap food at Plaza Renon.
Renon is Denpasar's government district with the Bajra Sandhi Monument and some museums. This is actual local life, not tourist Bali - offices, families, daily routines. Plaza Renon has modern cafes and restaurants, from local warungs to Starbucks. The park around the monument is decent for walking. Safe during the day with government security and police around. Almost no English spoken - you'll need Google Translate. Plaza Renon is fine for solo dining with a mix of locals and some tourists. Gets quiet after dark when workers go home, strictly a daytime area. No nightlife or beach clubs, but cheap authentic Indonesian food. Good central location between city and beaches if you're using Grab to get around.
