The southeastern edge borders Medeo Gorge with its high-altitude ice rink, plus Central Park and the Zoo. Attracts tourists during the day for museums and locals in the evenings for parks and cultural venues. Safety varies because it's so large - the central parts around museums and Dostyk Avenue are well-patrolled and safe, areas farther out get quieter at night. The concentration of attractions makes it essential for first-timers, but it's too spread out to walk everywhere so you'll need taxis or buses.
