Nairobi, Kenya
Maximum security thanks to UN and embassy presence. Village Market mall and Karura Forest are the main draws. It's expensive and feels more like an international zone than Kenya. Choose this if safety trumps authenticity.
The diplomatic area with UN headquarters, embassies, and heavy security everywhere. It's probably the safest part of Nairobi due to all the international organizations. Village Market is the main attraction - a huge mall with 100+ stores, restaurants, bowling, and even water slides. The restaurant options are diverse (Jiko is supposed to be Nairobi's best, plus West African at Golden Stool). Karura Forest next door has walking trails and cafes. It's far from downtown and feels more like an international compound than Kenya, but that's the tradeoff for maximum security. Good if safety is your top priority and you don't mind being in a bubble.

Areas with comparable safety profiles for solo female travelers
Peaceful, upscale suburb with major wildlife attractions nearby. One of the safest areas in Nairobi but far from downtown. You'll depend on Ubers to get anywhere, which adds up. Worth it if you prioritize safety and quiet over being near the action.
Exclusive old-money area with top security but little for visitors. Mainly relevant if you're staying at a luxury hotel here or know residents. Karura Forest and Village Market nearby are the actual attractions.
Secure residential area with diplomatic presence. Limited attractions - mainly relevant as a safe place to stay or for dining at places like Lord Erroll. You'll Uber everywhere from here.
