Puebla, Mexico
Puebla's artistic neighborhoods with murals, galleries, antique shops, and Sunday market. Safe during day, visit in daylight.
Barrio del Artista and Barrio de los Sapos are connected and form Puebla's artsy area. Barrio del Artista has colorful murals on buildings, tree-lined streets, artists painting in open-air workshops and galleries. Musicians on corners, cozy cafes with good coffee, places to sit and watch. A few blocks away is Los Sapos with antique shops, colonial buildings, and the Sunday flea market (Mercado de Antigüedades). Locals and artists are friendly and willing to chat about their work. Very photogenic, especially at night with string lights. During the day these areas are safe with foot traffic and tourist police. Relaxed bohemian vibe, good for experiencing local art culture. Eating alone is common in the cafes and small restaurants. Like much of Centro though, they get quiet and dark at night - visit during daylight and take a taxi if you're out late. Worth visiting if you're into art, culture, or photography.
