Puebla, Mexico
Centro Histórico has UNESCO architecture, museums, and good restaurants. Safe during the day but empties out at night - stick to daylight hours and take taxis in the evening.
The Centro Histórico has UNESCO status for its colonial architecture - Talavera-tiled buildings and baroque churches everywhere. During the day it's busy with tourist police, families in the Zócalo (main square), street vendors, and musicians. The area around the Cathedral and Amparo Museum stays active into evening, with cafes full of people working on laptops or chatting. Eating alone is normal, and balcony restaurants have good people-watching. Tourist restaurants and shops have some English speakers, though less than you'd find in beach destinations. After sunset around 7pm things change - streets empty out, lighting gets patchy, and locals take taxis instead of walking. Time your visits accordingly: museums, cultural stuff, and dining during the day and early evening, then Uber back to your place or to Cholula if you want nightlife.
