Chișinău, Moldova
What 90% of solo women don't know about staying safe in Chișinău.
Shopping district with malls and services. Safer than outer neighborhoods, cheaper than downtown, but no character or tourist sites. Practical if you want convenience without paying city center prices.
Shopping and commercial district in the north. Lots of malls, supermarkets, chain restaurants, and cafes aimed at local shoppers and young professionals. More modern than other parts of the city with better-maintained streets around the commercial zones. Riscani Forest on Florilor Street is nice, especially in autumn. Busy during the day with shoppers which makes it feel safer. Some shop and restaurant staff speak basic English since they get more foot traffic, though still less than downtown. Commercial areas are safe and modern during the day, but residential streets get quiet at night with inconsistent lighting. Middle-ground option - safer than Botanica or Buiucani, cheaper than downtown, but bland and no nightlife. You'll still need taxis for evening plans.

Residential area with Valea Morilor Park (worth visiting during the day). Cheap accommodation but unsafe at night and nobody speaks English. Go for the park or stay here on a budget if you'll taxi downtown for evenings.
Local residential area with a botanical garden and cheap food. Not safe at night. Go during the day or stay here only if you're on a tight budget and will taxi to the center for evenings.
