Lahore, Pakistan
What 90% of solo women don't know about staying safe in Lahore.
Has the most impressive historical sites and authentic markets, but it's very conservative with real harassment issues. Only visit during daylight, preferably with a guide, and leave before sunset. Important for history but difficult to navigate alone.
The 4000-year-old historical center with Mughal architecture - Badshahi Mosque, Lahore Fort, Wazir Khan Mosque with detailed tile work. During the day, narrow streets fill with tour groups, local families, and vendors selling fabrics at Azam Cloth Market plus street food. This is conservative traditional Pakistan. Very few women on the streets, and foreign women get a lot of attention and stares. Tourist Police are at major sites. After dark it's a different place. Sunset is around 5:30-6pm. Shops close, vendors leave, and the poorly lit narrow streets become unsafe. Even men from other parts of Lahore avoid it after dark. Visit between 9am-4pm, then take Uber or Careem to Gulberg or DHA for dinner. The architecture is impressive and the experience is authentic, but you need to time it right.
