Don't Make These 5 Mistakes in Singapore

What 90% of solo women don't know about staying safe in Singapore.

Summary

Cultural area with Indian food and shops. Good during the day, but weekend evenings bring crowds and unwanted attention. Consider visiting during daytime or staying elsewhere.

Details

Little India has the curry smell, Bollywood music, and colorful fabric shops. During the day it's good - check out Tekka Centre for Indian food, browse the shops, visit Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple. It's busy but safe. Weekend evenings are different. Migrant workers gather in the area on their day off, and some women report getting stared at or dealing with unwanted attention, especially near Mustafa Centre (a 24-hour mall). It's not dangerous - Singapore's crime rates are low everywhere - but the attention can be uncomfortable. On weekend evenings, stick to main streets and consider using Grab instead of walking around. The budget hostels here are cheap, but staying nearby in Lavender might be more comfortable.
