Cape Town, South Africa
The City Bowl has Cape Town's best food and coffee scene with artisan cafes and newer restaurants. Good for daytime exploring and solo eating, but use Uber between venues after dark.
The City Bowl is Cape Town's historic center, sitting in the basin formed by Table Mountain, Lion's Head, and Signal Hill. Bree Street and Kloof Street have most of the restaurants and bars - artisan cafes, craft breweries, newer restaurants. During the day these streets are busy with people working from cafes, tourists browsing shops, locals getting coffee. Plenty of people eat alone here, often on laptops or reading. The area has good coffee culture and creative energy. Everyone speaks English. Timing matters though. Bree Street stays busy until 9-10pm on weekends with decent lighting and people moving between bars, but streets around it empty out fast once it's dark. Even on Kloof Street, take an Uber between venues after 8pm rather than walking. The Company's Garden and Parliament area are worth seeing during the day but skip them after hours. Good for daytime exploring and early evening meals, then Uber between destinations once the sun sets.

Areas with comparable safety profiles for solo female travelers
Sea Point has an active coastal promenade and lots of restaurants that work well for solo dining. Decent during the day, but crime has increased - don't walk alone at night.
Camps Bay has beachfront dining with mountain views and upscale restaurants that work for solo meals. Stay on the main strip, expect high prices, and Uber home after dark.
Green Point and De Waterkant have good restaurants and a welcoming, LGBTQ+-friendly atmosphere. Convenient location between Sea Point and the Waterfront, though standard night safety rules still apply.
