Seville, Spain
What 90% of solo women don't know about staying safe in Seville.
Triana is across the river with deep flamenco roots and local dining scene. Safe and more residential than the tourist center. Good market, active riverfront, and better prices. Less English but worth it if you want something more authentic.
Triana is across the river from the historic center, connected by the Triana Bridge. It feels more local than touristy - this is where Seville's flamenco tradition comes from and where ceramic workshops have been running for centuries. The neighborhood has working-class roots and ongoing gentrification, so you get a mix of traditional tapas bars and newer restaurants. More Spanish spoken than English, though main restaurant staff can help you order. Mercado de Triana fills with locals during the day buying seafood and produce - the market stalls serve good tapas at reasonable prices. The riverfront along Calle Betis stays busy until late with bars and restaurants, so evening walks feel safe. Streets away from the river quiet down but don't feel sketchy. Solo dining is normal here, especially at the market. Less polished than Santa Cruz, more authentic, better prices.
