Dalawella and Thalpe are quieter beach areas with cafes and villas. They're fine by day but spread out, so arrange transport at night.
Dalawella and Thalpe sit just south-east of Unawatuna, with quieter beaches, boutique villas, surf spots and a scattering of cafes. Dalawella Beach is known for its rope swing and rock pools, while Thalpe has long stretches of calmer sand and more room. Everything is slower and more spread out than in Unawatuna, so you'll need transport between places. Daytime is relaxed, with cafes and yoga studios aimed at visitors. After dark the roads are poorly lit and many beach stretches are empty, so take a tuk-tuk or booked car to and from dinner. It suits anyone who wants beach time without the crowds.
