Avenyn and Lorensberg

Avenyn is convenient, well lit and full of restaurants, with easy transport links. It is safe but louder and less local than Haga or Linné, and late weekend nights can bring drunk crowds.

Kungsportsavenyn, known as Avenyn, is Gothenburg's main boulevard, running from Kungsportsplatsen to Götaplatsen, where the art museum and concert hall stand. It is lined with restaurants, cocktail bars and clubs, so it is busy on weekend nights and calm in the daytime. Lorensberg, just behind it, has quieter side streets, cinemas and hotels. Lighting is good and there are usually people around, which makes walking alone easy, but the bar strip attracts drunk and rowdy crowds, particularly late on Fridays and Saturdays, and unwanted attention or arguments are more likely here than elsewhere in the city. Solo dining is straightforward at bistros and cafes, and English is widely spoken. Trams stop at Kungsportsplatsen, Götaplatsen and along Södra Vägen, so you rarely have a long walk home.
