Linnéstaden

Linnéstaden is the best all-round neighborhood for a woman traveling alone who wants food, cafes and an evening out. It is safe, social and well connected by tram, and busy enough to feel comfortable without being a party zone.

Linnéstaden, usually just called Linné, is where many locals eat, drink and meet up. Its main street is Linnégatan, a long row of turn-of-the-century buildings with cafes, restaurants, bakeries and bars that fill up in the evening without feeling threatening. Off to the side, the Långgatorna streets have pubs and restaurants where students and young professionals gather on weekend nights. Eating alone is easy, since many restaurants have counter seating or small tables and nobody looks twice at a solo diner. The tram runs along Linnégatan and leaves from Järntorget, so getting back to your accommodation is straightforward. Slottsskogen, the city's main park, is at the top of the hill. Crowds around Järntorget get louder late on weekends but are generally good-natured.
