Phuket, Thailand
What 90% of solo women don't know about staying safe in Phuket.
The main tourist and nightlife area with everything walkable and everyone speaking English. Crowded, expensive, and full of scams. Generally safe with all the people around, but watch out late at night in party zones.
Patong is the main tourist zone and party area. Bangla Road has neon lights and bars, the beach has rows of chairs and jet ski rentals. Lots of tourists, lots of infrastructure, and prices to match. It's busy day and night - families during the day, party crowd after dark. Everyone speaks English. Violent crime is rare with all the people and police around, but you'll deal with scams, pickpockets, and people trying to sell you things. Eating alone is normal - there are hundreds of restaurants with international food. The beach isn't the prettiest on the island, but everything's walkable. At night stick to main streets with lights, use Grab not tuk-tuks, and watch your drinks in bars. Fine for a night or two to experience the energy, but not much authentic Thai culture here.

Areas with comparable safety profiles for solo female travelers
The cultural area with architecture, cafes, and actual Thai culture. No beach access but good for people who care more about that stuff. Safe during the day, comfortable for eating alone.
Middle ground between Patong's party scene and quieter beaches. Good beach for swimming, decent restaurants, low-key nightlife. Less intense than Patong but still has what you need.
Quiet and family-oriented with a long beach. Safe but limited nightlife and restaurants. Good for relaxing, not for socializing.
