city, Turkey
Cihangir is residential, safe, and has an international community. Good cafes and a more relaxed vibe than touristy areas. A solid choice if you want somewhere quieter but still well-connected.
Cihangir is where a lot of expats and creative types live, so it has a completely different vibe from the tourist areas. The cafes actually make good coffee, there are vintage shops worth browsing, and you'll hear multiple languages spoken on the streets. The park has nice Bosphorus views and locals walking their dogs, which keeps it feeling safe and residential. There's a Saturday market with decent organic produce if you're staying somewhere with a kitchen. It's an easy walk to Taksim but far enough away to avoid the chaos. Street crime is pretty rare here because neighbors look out for each other. If you want to experience Istanbul without constant tourist pressure, this is a good area to base yourself.

Areas with comparable safety profiles for solo female travelers
Galata has the nightlife scene and Galata Tower, but the steep streets are hard to navigate and it gets very crowded at night. Better for daytime visits unless you're confident handling busy nightlife areas.
