What Will You Do If...

Someone grabs your arm. A taxi goes off-route. A guy won't leave you alone. This free guide covers what to say and do.

Summary

Embassy district with heavy security and upscale restaurants. Most expensive area but also the safest. English widely spoken, good for eating alone. Less authentic but you pay for the safety and convenience.

Details

Kololo is where the embassies are - you'll see flags, gated compounds, and security guards on every street. The neighborhood has been upscale since the 1950s when diplomats and wealthy Ugandans moved in, and it still shows. Lots of surveillance cameras, security systems, and guards at residences. Restaurants cater to the expat crowd with international food and trendy cafes where staff speak English and are used to foreign customers. Everything costs more here than in local areas - you're paying for the security. The area gets quiet after 10pm when people go inside, but the embassy security means it's still safe to walk around in the evening. About a 10-minute drive from central Kampala, near other safe neighborhoods like Nakasero and Kisementi.
