Bruntsfield and Morningside are affluent residential areas south of the city center. Tree-lined streets, bookshops, bakeries. Morningside especially feels like a well-off village - families shopping on weekends, people walking dogs, an older population. You'll see people eating alone in cafes like Honeycomb & Co while reading the paper. The trade-off is limited nightlife - things get quiet after 9pm when everyone goes home. You're 25 minutes' walk from central Edinburgh or a short bus ride, which creates distance from tourist areas. Works if you want a quiet base to return to after sightseeing. Less suitable if you want to be where things are happening. Accommodation leans toward B&Bs and small hotels rather than hostels.
